truth in advertising: ink costs more than crude oil, penicillin and human blood.

Maybe it costs a lot because it's toxic and is a total pain to dispose of.
I don't know why people are focused on HP ink when Canon, Epson, Lexmark, etc. have more expensive ink than HP.
excellent terminology,
Interesting, i will have to look into this.
If you do the math, we are paying $2650.00 per gallon for black ink!!! That's TWO THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED FIFTY AMERICAN DOLLARS for a lousy gallon of ink!!! That's why there is a cl action law suit against HP for this price gouging right now and people don't even know about it!
i go to a place that refills b/w for $8 and color for $11 they have lasted 2x as long as when bought new

Buckwheat April 08, 2009

Untested, I've heard that they only fill ink to 50% capacity from the factory for new printers.

tom April 09, 2009

yes, 50% black and 50% white.

To Andreas in Holland,
We are getting ripped off in USA. You pay 25 for a cartridge blackwhite? We only get the black! We are being scammed out of our white ink!

-V- April 01, 2009

I will sell anyone the white ink for under $/? 10,- (That's way less than half of the blackwhite used by Andreas!)
BTW I stopped selling the other kinds of ink, somehow people don't seem to be able to get the white anywhere else, so... go to my website @ white.ink. inc. and stash up! You get great discounts when you buy in bulk!!!

LOL!

Dude, this is all that jazz huh? What's the talk of ink when we have hunger in this world. Only Jesus will save us from evil ink. He will return and HE will buy all evil and and give to devil, yes!

nagnod March 28, 2009

Meat helmet!

Listen folks - Lots of things are a rip off nowadays.
Most meat is pumped full of water.
Whole milk (Ha-Ha) is thoroughly diluted with water. Etc Etc. We are chumps to put up with it
I see that water is more price than crude oil? which part of the world?

March 26, 2009

bottled water

Arun March 29, 2009

HEard of Abu Dhabi? Waters more expensive than oil..AND Vodka!!!

Cream, its a meme. You are the idiot. Been trolled.
Don't know about you, but I don't burn several gallons of ink in a week's time, or penicillin in a lifetime...
yep ink jet printers are a rip off. Laser is the way to go in the long run. you get something like 200 pgs @ 5% coverage out of a black ink jet cartridge for $40, as apposed to ~6500 out of a SMALL laser toner cartridge for $100. Plus laser toner cartridges don't dry up like ink jet, so you can use it over the course of a year.

Hurricane March 26, 2009

With laser printers you have to figure in the cost of the other components that have to be changed every 10,000 pages or so. With the HP inkjet cartridges you are getting a brand new printhead.

joe, you're an idiot. Why photoshop it when you can easily create a new graph? stop trying to be a smart-butt.

Jason March 25, 2009

You, sir, got trolled! I can tell by the anger in your pixels.

Robert March 26, 2009

thats why you buy a cheap hp replacment cos toner is toner and theres no point giving hp 100 bucks when you can pay 40 for the same thing

tom March 27, 2009

actully robert you may mean ink is ink.

If u put toner in an inkjet printer... your gna be pretty.

Lordy mama!
christ photo shopped i can tell by the pixels

D-chi March 27, 2009

i herd u liek photoshop

The printers are sold at a ridiculously low bargain price to get you hooked on the ridicuously overpriced cartridges. That is what this business is all about.
guess we need some research on the paper, so that we can use some thing with the shorter bars.
Us folks working in technology have known this for years: inkjets are a scam. The environmental impact is also horrific. You can shell out just $100 more for a laser and save 5 times that within 3 years. People really just don't think long term. I bought a $250 laserjet at Tiger 3 years ago. I print quite a bit, as does my wife. I just got my first low toner warning since buying it last week. You literally get 10-20 times the print capacity from lasers that you do from ink.
Mark Iragana, Does the 'A' in your name stand for apostrophe?
Time to start printing doents in blood
The HP 74 & 75 are even worse. I'm all about making money but there has to be some value. Don't buy an HP printer.
Is this just considering the cost of the ink in the container or also the cost of the packaging involved?
Worth more than ink.
Ghandi!
I don't believe that.

Dr\'s in CS March 22, 2009

Don't insist on being so ignorant. The first comment is right, tech guys have known this for YEARS. InkJet is a huge waste of money.

i think we are being ripped off!!!

bob March 20, 2009

Where I used to work they made duplicators and sold them at a loss so they could then charge you ?20 per tube of ink for the next 10 years or more. The ink only cost about 20p per tube to make so the profit was gigantic, although it did require a sophisticated system to develop and manufacture consistently best quality ink.

It may take some getting used to, but after living without a printer for 6 years I hardly miss it.
Really?? I am not surprised at the ink being so expensive. A pair of cartridges is more expensive than the printer itself. So, I just get a new printer every time I need more ink since Refills suck.

What truly amazes me is the price/ml of blood. I always thought blood is for free. I still think it is .. I never paid a penny for it. ;)

JesseCluster March 23, 2009

You probably don't realize that there IS a cost to the person donating the blood since their time = money and it takes time to donate blood.

You'd probably be surprised to find out that organ donation is also free to the recipient, but comes at the cost of the life of the donor.

Siga March 29, 2009

Err..Jesse..Donors dont die when they donate...Why would you wanna donate a liver if it killed you?

I have absolutely no comment on this.

rAY March 20, 2009

and yet you commented.

LOL March 21, 2009

HAHA!

What people don't think of when they see this is the amount of USE you get out of the various items. For example, sure, ink costs a lot more per unit, but consider that it lasts a lot longer than a barrel of crude oil. In other words, we use less ink. Therefore, the overall cost of the oil (unit price * volume used) is much higher.
@ripoff-sayers: why ripoff? Here in Holland a cartridge blackwhite color costs around 25 euro's, while there's just about 23 mL ink in it...
27.54% of statistics are made up on the spot...

caliwitch March 20, 2009

Did you make that one up on the spot?

berrycom March 20, 2009

i hear its 70%

Source?

Why do we all instantly believe any random internet statistics?

Lookitup March 22, 2009

Granted, but look it up yourself, InkJets cost Americans more money then anything.

what a rip off
Your funny. I like that.
this just goes to show you that you should be filling your ink cartridges with crude oil

Jumpin Gehosiphat March 27, 2009

or at least human blood to save a little bit of money

this is why i use gas for everything including blood!
It may be true, but it takes a lot less ink to use a printer than gas to use a car.
seen this many times before you stealing bastard. also, this is why I refill ink cartridges myself.
oooooh my gosh!!!!
thats why i use places that do refills
Just goes to show how much companies rip you off without you noticing...
cool man!!!!!
OMG!!!
jesus.
